Stunning App Icon Designs

We’re big fans of design in all it’s forms over here at Print Express – we often talk about beautiful landing pages, or business card designs or even video game artwork, but it’s been quite a long time since we last talked about app icons. For a long time I’ve been interested in the design of app icons – they look so small and unassuming, but they play such a huge role in how an app is perceived. It appears in the app store, it’s what comes to represent your app on the phone’s home screen – and so it stands to reason that you should invest some time and effort into making it look good. It ultimately will come to be like your logo or your brand – it defines the personality and style of your app in a surprisingly big way, especially considering the tiny canvas it lives on.

We haven’t talked about app icons in over a year, and in the last 12 months there have been some stunning examples. In the world of mobile apps, design moves fast and it’s interesting to see some of the different trends and styles emerge over the last year. I wanted to bring together a collection of fresh, recent app icon designs that you’ll hopefully find inspiring, and that might give you some ideas around techniques that work well on the smaller screen. Some of these designs are for genuine apps that are out in the wild, while others are concept designs for fictional apps – but each one is beautifully designed, and would look amazing on a mobile home screen. So without further ado, here’s our roundup of the latest, greatest app icon designs.
