Over the last few weeks we’ve spent quite a bit of time talking about print – from movie posters to office artwork, and even from paper cut artwork to business cards. But today, I want to talk exclusively about software, and designing for the screen. There’s a huge amount of beautiful software out there and a huge amount of thought and attention is put into the consumer-facing side of it – but one thing that’s been slower to catch up is the admin side of it. For years, dashboard designs were an after-thought as admin panels – those screens that only admins used to monitor the performance of their software, check on user activity and other administrative tasks – were seen mainly as functional and less about design. But of course, great design can make software more functional, easier to navigate and easier to use.
Dashboard designs have come a long way in a relatively short amount of time, and there are some absolutely beautiful, clean and stylish admin panels out there. I wanted to bring togetether a post that showcased the latest, best dashboard designs I could find. Some of these are for admin panels that you can use, while others are designs that are in real, production-ready apps. In either case, the designs for each are much more stylish and usable than the admin panels of even five years ago – and hopefully this collection will give you some inspiration if you’re looking to create a dashboard design of your own.
So there you have it – our roundup of the latest, greatest dashboard designs. Have you used (or even created) any admin panels or dashboards that you’re particularly proud of? Have you put together a user interface that’s worth shouting about? If so, we’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
